Bandolier Bag Workshop (Continuation) Workshop with Denise Silva-Dennis
June 29 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Don’t miss out on our upcoming (Continuation) Bandolier Bag workshop on Thursday, June 29th at 6pm at Ma’s House! Led by Shinnecock artist Denise Silva-Dennis, this immersive event will delve into the rich cultural history of Bandolier Bags, traditionally crafted by Algonquin-speaking nations such as the Ojibwe, Chippewa, Potawatomi, Ottawa, and others.
Originally designed as small hunting pouches for men, these bags have evolved over time into larger, more intricate creations, adorned with diverse motifs such as florals, berries, geometric shapes, and animals.
In this workshop, we’ll guide you through the process of creating your own Bandolier Bag from leather. You’ll get to personalize your bag using stencils and permanent markers, creating a design that speaks to your individual style. And, although we won’t have two years to complete our bags as in the traditional method, we’ll incorporate beads stitched onto various parts of the bag to enhance the design.
Please note that RSVP is required for this event as there are only 12 seats available. All necessary materials will be provided, and the workshop is open to the public. Secure your spot today for this unique cultural and creative experience!
