Bandolier Bag Workshop (Continue) with Denise Silva-Dennis
July 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Don’t forget about our next Bandolier Bag workshop happening at Ma’s House! This exciting workshop is the third in our series, and it’ll be led by the talented Shinnecock artist, Denise Silva-Dennis. We’ll be learning all about Bandolier Bags, a traditional bag used by Algonquin-speaking tribes like the Ojibwe, Chippewa, Potawatomi, Ottawa, and others.
Back in the day, these bags started out as small hunting pouches for men but over time, they’ve turned into bigger, more artistic pieces. They’re decorated with loads of different designs like flowers, berries, geometric shapes, and even animals.
At our workshop, we’re going to show you how to make your very own Bandolier Bag from leather. You’ll get to personalize your bag with stencils and permanent markers, creating a design that shows off your own style. We won’t have the usual two years to finish our bags as they traditionally do, but we’ll be adding beads to different parts of the bag to make them look even cooler.
Remember, you need to RSVP to this event because we’ve only got 12 spots available. We’ll provide everything you need for the workshop and anyone can join us. So make sure to grab your spot today and come join us for this super fun and cultural experience!
