Collage Workshop with Resident Artist Pachi Muruchu
July 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Collage & mixed media provides the ground through which we can remix and transform images and colors. We can sculpt these forms into personal and mythological narratives that depict our relationship to this world. The ways we decorate the world reveals the ways we come to understand it. As a medium, mixed media is complicated, it is non-linear and is born out of necessity. A lot of our traditional clothing or objects are often a complicated marriage of disparate materials. Some materials are born from our territories, others are available as a result of the complicated settler history we have resisted. Yet by manipulating their forms indigenous cultural workers are able to make multifaceted objects that sing our stories. We can learn a lot by creating an image!
“My own work is the result of indigenous Andean philosophical concepts, my family’s Kichwa history, and the complicated migratory history of New York City. It’s almost impossible to stay loyal to one material in order to tell such an expansive story! I invite everyone to come with their stories and their loved ones so that we may share through paper, magazines, and paint our bonds with the world. ”
RSVP Required – 12 seats open!
