OPENING RECEPTION: Living Histories: Contemporary Shinnecock Stories Honoring Tradition – Solo Exhibit by Rebekah Phoenix Wise at Ma’s House

Ma’s House is pleased to present “Living Histories: Contemporary Shinnecock Stories Honoring Tradition,” a solo exhibition featuring Shinnecock photographer Rebekah Phoenix Wise. The works on view highlight the historic and modern traditions of contemporary Shinnecock voices through themed photographic series and written insights from the artist.
The opening reception is Sunday, February 25, from 5 – 8 pm.
The exhibition will run from Sunday, February 18—Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Rebekah Phoenix Wise (b. 1989) is a photographer who specializes in portraits and event photography. She is a proud member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton, NY, and grew up on the Shinnecock Reservation. Her unique perspective on indigenous life is reflected in her work, which explores themes such as happiness, community, tradition, and modernity. Rebekah is passionate about breaking stereotypes and is committed to showcasing the joy and positivity within Native American culture.
