Jamie John – April 2022

Please join us in welcoming interdisciplinary artist Jamie John @jamie_john.jpg – our current artist in residency at Ma’s House! Jamie plans to spend time at Ma’s House renewing a sense of ancestral kinship ties to the land and waters on the east coast of Turtle Island.

Jamie John is a 2spirit Anishinaabe and Korean artist, writer, educator, and abolitionist living and working in their ancestral homeland of so-called Michigan. Jamie is an enrolled and active tribal citizen of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, a jingle dress and hoop dancer, and a lifelong language learner. Being Korean and Anishinaabe, Jamie spent many years living with their adopted Mexican family out in California before moving to their ancestral Anishinaabe homeland in Michigan.

You can meet the artist Saturday, April 16th for our game night at 5pm or at Jamie’s open studios Tuesday, April 19th at 5pm!
