Ma’s House Chosen for Artist Choice Award 2023

Ma’s House is honored to be a recipient of the Artist Choice Grant for 2023!
The Ruth Foundation for the Arts has announced the 56 organizations selected for its second annual Artist Choice initiative. Considered the foundation’s flagship program, each organization will receive funds ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 for a total of $1.25 million.
The initiative works by having a cohort of artists nominate up to three organizations that “have impacted their practice and instill a sense of creative community”. The organizations are then free to interpret this as they choose. This year’s cohort consisted of 53 artists, including Lorraine O’Grady, Tomashi Jackson, and Jason Moran, among others.
The organizations come from 41 cities in 26 states, and some of the less well-known ones include Antenna in New Orleans, the Chicago Artists Coalition, and the Center for Hmong Arts & Talent in Saint Paul, among others. Other more established organizations include Franklin Furnace, NXTHVN, and Wave Hill.
Ruth Arts was established last year with a $440 million endowment and the goal of doling out around $17 million in grants annually. The foundation has so far administered $15.74 million through the first iteration of Artist Choice and its four other grant-making programs.
