The Ma’s House project is being led by artist and photographer Jeremy Dennis. Dennis is a contemporary fine art photographer and a tribal member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton, NY. In his work, he explores indigenous identity, culture, and assimilation.

Hunter Begun is great grandson of Ma and the nephew of Denise and cousin to Jeremy. Hunter is a videographer and documents visiting BIPOC artists at Ma’s House using his videography skills and is creating a podcast with visiting artists. He provides his unique perspective, creative ideas, and his videography skills to whoever needs them in the community to share their story.

Denise Silva-Dennis leads weekly workshops on Native American beadwork and other crafts to help Shinnecock tribal members prepare for the annual powwow season and pass down skills. The regalia incorporates shell beads, glass beads, buckskin leather, feathers, and other traditional materials. These workshops also include painting and drawing workshops based on the local landscape to foster an appreciation of Shinnecock. 

Brianna L. Hernández

Brianna L. Hernández is a Chicana artist, curator, and educator guided by socially-engaged practices. Brianna’s interdisciplinary practice focuses on end-of-life care, grief, and trauma, informed by her own experience as her mother’s caregiver and formal death doula training. Brianna will serve as the Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio Inc. board secretary.

Darlene Troge
Establishing Board Member & Treasurer

Darlene Troge (Jeremy’s Aunt & Shinnecock Tribal Member) has a business administration background and will serve as the Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio board treasurer.

Avery Dennis Jr.
Facilities Director

Avery Dennis Jr. (Jeremy’s father & Shinnecock Tribal Member) is leading the work to rehabilitate Ma’s House by re-framing walls, replacing floors, and general house maintenance.
